How do I apply a discount at the till?

Adding a discount to a whole order or a single item, removing it, and what happens with manager approval and automatic discounts.

Discounts are set up in the back office under Product Library then Discounts. Each one is either a percentage or a fixed amount off. At the till you can apply them to a whole order or to individual items.

On the iPad

Discounting the whole order

  1. Ring up the items first. Discounts can't be added to an empty order.

  2. Tap Menu, then Add Discount.

  3. Tap the discount you want.

Discounting a single item

  1. Tap the item on the order, then tap Add Discount.

  2. If there's more than one of that item, choose Apply to 1 or Apply to all (the button shows how many).

  3. Tap the discount you want.

To remove a discount, swipe left on the discount line and tap Delete.

On Seamless Pocket (handhelds)

  1. Ring up the items, then tap the total bar to open the order.

  2. For the whole order, tap •••, then Add Discount. For a single item, tap the item, then Add Discount.

  3. If there's more than one of that item, choose Just This One or All (the button shows how many).

  4. Tap the discount you want.

On Seamless on Android

  1. Ring up the items.

  2. For the whole order, tap Menu, then Add Discount. For a single item, tap the item, then Add Discount.

  3. If there's more than one of that item, choose Just This One or All.

  4. Tap the discount you want.

On both Android apps, remove a discount by tapping the item and tapping Remove Discount. An order discount is applied to each item, so remove it from each item in the same way.

Discount buttons

You can also add a discount button to a till layout in the back office. Tapping it applies that discount to the whole order, on the iPad and on both Android apps.

Common questions

Why is the till asking for a PIN? A discount can be limited to Supervisors, Managers or Owners using its Permission setting in the back office. If you are signed in below that level, the till asks for the PIN of someone who has it. If their level is still too low, the till says their permissions are insufficient.

Can I add more than one discount? On the iPad, an order discount can't be added if anything on the order is already discounted. You'll see Multiple discounts not possible, so remove the existing discount first. Discount buttons on a layout work the same way everywhere. On the Android apps, a second discount added from the menu is applied on top of the first, so check the total before taking payment.

How is a fixed amount split across items? A percentage discount comes off each item. A fixed amount is shared across the items in proportion to their prices.

I added items after the discount. A discount applies to the items on the order when you add it. Items rung up afterwards aren't discounted, so add the discount last.

A discount appeared on its own. That's an automatic discount, such as a happy hour, multi-buy or meal deal set up in the back office. They apply themselves when the order qualifies. Some are set to ask first: the iPad shows Apply Discount? with Yes and No, and the Android apps show Apply discount? with Apply and Reject.

Can I type in a one-off discount? Not at the moment. Set up the discounts you use regularly in the back office so they are ready to tap.
