Abandon Order cancels the whole order and closes it, for example when a customer walks out before paying or an order was started by mistake. Anything already sent to the kitchen is voided, and anything not yet sent is removed. If the order was on a table, the table is freed.
On the iPad
Open the order you want to abandon.
Tap Menu, then Abandon Order.
The till explains what will happen. If items have been sent to the kitchen, it warns you that they will be voided. Tap Continue to abandon the order, or Cancel to keep it.
On the iPad you can also abandon an empty order, which is a quick way to free a table that was opened by mistake.

Common questions
Why can't I abandon this order? An order that has had a payment taken against it can't be abandoned. You'll see This order has payments assigned and cannot be abandoned. Either take the rest of the payment, or refund what has been paid.
Who can abandon orders? On the iPad, abandoning any order needs a Supervisor, Manager or Owner. On the Android apps, staff on the User level can abandon an order as long as nothing has been sent to the kitchen. Once items have been sent, a Supervisor or above is needed because those items have to be voided.
Will the kitchen know? On the iPad, the voided items are sent to the kitchen when you abandon the order, and are marked VOID if you use print routes. On the Android apps, nothing is sent to the kitchen, so let them know directly.
I only want to take off one or two items. See How do I remove or void an item?
