Seat numbers let you record which guest at a table ordered each item, so plates land in front of the right person without the "who had the sea bass?" round. Turn seating on once in the backoffice and every new table order asks how many covers you have, giving you a numbered seat for each guest to ring items against.
Turning seating on
In the backoffice, go to System Settings.
Turn on Enable seating.
We also recommend turning on Request covers for new table orders, so the till asks for the number of guests when a table is opened and creates a seat for each one.
Taking an order with seats
When you start a new table order, the till asks for the number of covers and creates seat slots above the order area, numbered 1, 2, 3 and so on.
Tap a seat number, then ring up an item: it is assigned to that seat.
Use the Table option instead of a seat for anything shared or not tied to a person, like a bottle of wine for the table.
Rang something against the wrong guest? Tap the item and choose change seat.
A latecomer joins? Tap the + button to add another seat to the table.
Printing seat numbers on kitchen tickets
Seat numbers can print on routed tickets, and you choose per route: in the backoffice, open Printing then Print Routes, and turn on Print seat numbers for each route that needs them. An expedite station usually wants seat numbers for plating; the chef on the grill may not need them, so leave that route off.
Common questions
Can I move an item to a different seat after ringing it up? Yes. Tap the item in the order and choose change seat.
Do shared items need a seat? No. Ring them against the Table option and they stay unassigned.
Can I add a seat after the order has started? Yes, tap + next to the seat numbers. Useful when an extra guest arrives.
